Killer Bee (16k, Alnico 5)
The Shredder's Essential
Voiced after the legendary early JB pickups, the Killer Bee is your ticket to dominating the fretboard. It's no wonder this is our most popular bridge pickup amongst the shredding crowd! From ripping '80s metal to crushing modern tones, this Alnico 5 powerhouse delivers. Expect a slightly scooped mid-range for clarity, coupled with plenty of gain, screaming harmonics, and razor-sharp attack. handcrafted,
one at a time
As a small builder, I believe Colley Pickups come packed with just a little more mojo and a whole lotta' more love!
Through a passionate and tedious process, I wind a collection of pickups using the best magnets, wire, and parts I can find!
I currently have 6 different humbuckers available ranging from my Vintage 58 for more tradition PAF tones and on the other end of things, an 18.3k Alnico 8 Hellfire! In the medium output territory there's the Meanstreet Humbucker, inspired by Edward's favorite Alnico 2 overwound pickups!
Strat Pickups are wound with either Alnico 2 or 5 Magnets with a modified vintage pole piece staggering providing just the right amount of bite and balance without becoming ice-picky. Strat Sets come with each pickup wound to sound its best in it's position. Middle pickups are always RWRP for hum-canceling in the 2 and 4 switch positions.
P90's were actually the first pickups I started making. My Classic P90 is an absolutely beautiful pickup! Very responsive and dynamic. With an Alnico 5 magnet and weighing in at 8.5k, it's got enough gusto to cover pretty much any gig.
If you're looking for a little more out of your P90, then the Super Kick - P90 is for you! More aggressive and more output and attack with a slightly scooped midrange. Medium to hot output at 14k. Cue up that sweet chin music! This pickup ain't your grandaddies P90.
For all the Jazzmaster players, my Alnico 5 JM pickups are outstanding! Great note articulation and very well balanced! If your standard JM pickups aren't getting it done, give these a try, you'll be happy you did!
All Colley Pickups are handmade items! It takes approximately 1-2 weeks before shipping.
Sometime there's a run of pickups ready to go and their shipped a lot sooner. Just keep in mind, all the pickups here are being wound by the same person, Kyle Colley of Colley Pickups, in Scottsdale Arizona.
Your pickup(s) will come ready to rock! Accompanied by a specifications card and tested to meet both inductance and resistance tolerances. Before being boxed, your pickup is engraved with it's logo and born on date! When you open the box, you'll find your pickup placed in a velvet satchel along with mounting hardware and some swag! If you need help installing them into your guitar, please check out the Wiring Diagrams or shoot me a message. To keep things simple, our Humbucker pickups follow the same color code as Seymour does.
